Who is eligible for COVID-19 Vaccine right now in Georgia?
Georgia Eligibility is open for everyone 12 years of age and older for the COVID vaccine.
*Note: Pfizer is the only COVID vaccine currently approved for children aged 12 through 17. All minors must have parental consent for a vaccination.
Pfizer COVID vaccine is offered when available at some of our county health departments' COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics; however, it is most reliably available at our clinics in Cherokee, Pickens and Whitfield counties.
Everyone who is eligible for the vaccine may walk in without an appointment to a public health COVID-19 vaccine clinic in Cherokee, Fannin, Gilmer, Murray, Pickens or Whitfield County, or they may register for a COVID-19 vaccination appointment at gta-vras.powerappsportals.us or call 1-888-457-0186.

Why is it important for healthcare workers and first responders to have the vaccination?
When healthcare personnel and first responders get sick with COVID-19, they are not able to work and provide key services for patients or clients, which weakens the whole community’s healthcare infrastructure.
Why is it critical that people 65 and older get vaccinated?
It is especially important for older adults to get the vaccine because they have the highest risk of being very sick or dying from COVID-19.
Is COVID-19 Vaccine provided for Free?
COVID-19 vaccine is offered by public health at no cost. Health insurance will be accepted if available, but if insurance is not presented, there will be no cost for the vaccine to the client.
Who are COVID-19 Providers?
In Georgia, public health departments provide COVID-19 vaccine, and there are also many private vaccine providers, such as physicians and commercial vaccination sites, including many pharmacies. How safe is COVID-19 vaccine? Can I trust it?

Which vaccine is being given to local residents?
Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines are being administered in North Georgia.
Why do you need a second injection?
Some vaccines need two shots to be most effective. Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines range from 42% to 82% effectiveness within a week of the first dose but are up to 95% efficacy within two weeks after the second dose. Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine requires only one dose and is also considered to be highly protective at 66% efficacy.
When will additional vaccine be available to public health?
Additional COVID-19 doses are continually supplied to public health departments, and as vaccine supply increases at the national level, the flow of vaccine to local health departments will also increase.
Do COVID-19 vaccines protect against the COVID-19 variants?
Based on the evidence so far, the new variants of SARS-CoV-2, including the B.1.1.7 and the 501Y.V2, do not alter the effectiveness of the vaccines.
Should I continue taking safety precautions after getting a COVID-19 vaccine?
Yes, you should continue wearing masks, handwashing, and social distancing after getting the vaccine. This will help bring the pandemic under control.
Can COVID-19 vaccine give you COVID-19?
It is impossible for the Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to give you COVID-19. None of these vaccines contain any live virus.
What are the side effects of COVID-19 vaccine?
The most common side effects are pain and swelling on the arm where the shot was given. Some people may develop fever, chills, tiredness and headaches later on, but only for a short while. These symptoms are eased by taking ibuprofen or aspirin and applying a cool, wet washcloth on the area of the shot. If symptoms worsen or if they don’t go away, consult with a healthcare professional.
Can I get a COVID-19 vaccine if I have an underlying medical condition?
Yes, as long as you have not had an immediate or severe allergic reaction to a COVID-19 vaccine or to any of the ingredients in the vaccine. Vaccination is an important consideration for adults of any age with certain underlying medical conditions because they are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19. If I already had COVID-19, should I still get the COVID vaccine?
Yes, some people can get COVID-19 again and it is not known how long someone is protected from getting the virus again.
Does the vaccine work for people who are obese?
Although studies show COVID-19 vaccine may be less effective in people who have obesity, those who do not get vaccinated are at an increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19.
Can I get a COVID-19 vaccine if I have a history of allergic reactions?
If you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to any ingredient in a COVID-19 vaccine, the CDC recommends that you should not get that specific vaccine. You can check out the vaccine ingredients at www.cdc.gov.
Can pregnant or breastfeeding women get the COVID-19 vaccine?
Health officials agree that Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines should be offered to pregnant and breastfeeding women. But there is a lot that is still unknown about the safety of the vaccines in these populations, so it is best that women consult with their doctor for a personal assessment.
Can the vaccine cause infertility?
There is no evidence that the COVID-19 vaccine causes infertility or interferes with placenta formation. There were women who participated in the COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials who became pregnant after getting the vaccine.
Can the vaccine alter my DNA?
No. These COVID-19 vaccines do not change or interact with your DNA in any way.
What ID will be required to receive a COVID-19 vaccination?
There are no identification requirements to receive COVID-19 vaccine in Georgia.
